Our research strongly indicates your company is eligible for duty relief

Even though you have trusted people and processes in place to make sure your imported goods are properly handled, we have evidence to suggest there is a missed opportunity that could yield significant financial benefits for your company.

Satisfied clients

Over the past 27 years, we’ve obtained millions of dollars of duty refunds and relief for our clients. All of them were unaware of the opportunity before we reached out.

Why are you unaware of this customs information?

Due to the nature of the Canadian tariff system, a majority of rulings and decisions on import duties are unpublished – we estimate it’s more than 90%. And there are new decisions issued every month. There’s no reasonable way to expect your customs brokers or consultants to have this information.

Because of our specialised customs intelligence, we have successfully recovered significant refunds for companies even after they’ve commissioned customs consultants to audit their imports.

FAQs

If our service seems unusual that’s because it is. As far as we can ascertain, we are the only company operating in Canada who practices these intelligence gathering methods and offers these specific services. It’s understandable that you have questions. Please feel free to reach out directly to us or peruse the FAQs below.

If we’ve contacted you it’s because we have strong evidence that your company could financially benefit from adjustments to its customs declarations and classifications.

This evidence is based on our unique investigative techniques that gather information from multiple sources on an on-going basis.

We obtain duty refunds for our clients, but also reduce costs, creating a permanent advantage moving forward in terms of overall business performance and market competitiveness.

We have obtained refunds and cost reductions on goods of up to 18%. In some cases, this amounts to millions of dollars. For smaller companies, it can generate a more modest tens of thousands of dollars. However, the positive impact of that amount on a boutique business is substantial and always very satisfying for us.

If you enter into an agreement with CIB, we will need your permission and support in accessing your company’s Canadian customs records. In many cases, this is facilitated with a simple one-time administrative task on your side.

Generally we charge a percentage of refunds recovered or cost reductions generated through our work - typically 40%. There are no upfront costs and absolutely no fees if we do not recover overpaid duty or generate a cost reduction for your company. Our agreements with clients are each unique and tailored to the specifics of their situation and needs.

Our work is guided by ethical standards that state all parties involved in an agreement should benefit from it. If your company doesn’t benefit from duty refunds or relief, we will not benefit from any service fees.

Absolutely. In fact, we insist. The nature of our business relies on mutual trust between us and our clients. The value of our business is tied to our exclusive intelligence, and we only share this intelligence with clients. We understand and respect that you want to protect your company’s information. So do we.

On occasion, we have worked simultaneously with multiple companies providing similar goods within the same market at the same time. In these cases, we have upheld the strictest confidentiality while ensuring every company received equal duty relief.

This is a loaded question. It is also a fair one. Mutual trust between us and our clients is the foundation of our business. As a small and specialised company, our integrity is essential to our continued success. We vehemently secure confidentiality and uphold our contractual obligations.

We can provide you with client testimonials (in addition to the ones featured on this website) and even put you in direct contact with a previous client upon request.

The people behind the scenes of CIB and this website are genuine, experienced, and more than happy to meet you to discuss how we can generate income for both our businesses.

In short: that’s a trade secret. What we can share is that we monitor various publications, platforms, outlets, and resources and then use our many years of customs experience to analyse and interpret the data collected. This analysis can reveal potential opportunities. Our research is entirely legal and incredibly specialised.

Please note: though this is a public website, it is not search engine optimised or promoted through third party platforms (other than our owned media channels, such as the CIB LinkedIn profile). This is because our services are so specialised that they are only applicable to a handful of companies every year, which we identify based on our research.

If we haven’t directly contacted you, we may not have customs intelligence that will benefit your business, but we are happy to connect and have a discussion.
